Meet the Staff

Owner- Ralph H. Black Jr. also known as “Chip” has owned and operated the motel for 18 seasons. Chip was born and raised on Orr’s Island and has knowledge of all the Harpswell  Islands. He is familiar with most of the local families that have been here for many generations. He can tell you old time stories or take out a map and guide you to places of interest with his knowledge and experience to live life and all that it has to offer. Many guests return not only because of the island views but the hospitality that makes Chip unique to all his guests.

Motel Manager/Front Desk- Doreen Freeman is in her 9th season with us.  Her family history goes back many generation on Bailey Island along with her love for the sea and hospitality.  She grew up in Connecticut with a career as a Travel Agent. Her journey has taken her many places but she now enjoys living and working here on the islands off the coast of Maine. In addition she is an artist/photographer and her many images can be seen on this site.

Front Desk- Connie Lord has been with the Motel for the past 11 years sharing her warm friendly smile and local knowledge of the islands.  She was born and raised on Bailey Island. She and Chip grew up together and she is also Doreen’s Aunt. When we say we are like family, we mean it. You will be welcomed and treated like family also.

Front Desk and Housekeeping- Darby has been with us for a couple of seasons. She has a dual role here at the motel.  Another happy face greeting you at check in or making sure your room is clean and comfortable.

Housekeeping- Elaine has been with us for 10 years and enjoys her position here at the motel. Return guests know her by name and love seeing her smiling face year after year.

Housekeeping- Donna is the newest member to our staff and 2nd season with us. She works hard and receives compliments from our guests. We are grateful to have her on our staff!
