With spring/summer like temperatures on this last day of winter, Bailey Island Motel is gearing up for a new season. Raking the yard, preparing the gardens and cleaning the brick side walks are on my list. Also, we need to remove the green winter protective plywood from each of the motel room doors, turn on the water and begin to prepare the rooms for our 19^th season.

We’ve been taking lots of reservations. There have been many newcomers to the list this year. Families are coming for weddings and making summer vacation plans. Asking all the wonderful questions about the island that we love to share and talk about.

Of course it is always nice to catch up with our wonderful repeat guests about the holidays and winter survival stories. Most have had an easy mild winter. We saw little snow this winter and mild temperatures like a lot of  the country and concluded it was nothing like last winter for many of us.

The most asked question of all, “is Bailey still around?” Bailey is getting older and a little slower, sleeping the cold winter days away but as this wonderful warm spring weather is settling in, he is patiently waiting with great anticipation for the first guest to arrive. For those of you who are newcomers to the motel, Bailey is the motel cat. He is a Maine coon with a great sense of loving the hospitality industry and slow paced island life. He roams the island very independently but you will usually find him out on the lawn or walking the brick sidewalk looking for affection or a quick bit of playfulness before he moves on.
